The goal of the Marine Energy Technology Advancement Partnership (METAP) project was to accelerate the commercialization of marine hydrokinetic (wave, tidal and current) technologies in the U.S. through creation of a strategic partnership between states, DOE, NREL, and the industry. The value proposition for interested states was to leverage federal funding and nation-wide technology expertise to achieve faster progress in marine energy commercialization.

CESA coordinated the project in partnership with the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) and the Association of State Energy Research Technology Transfer Institutions (ASERTTI). The initiative was funded by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and implemented in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Wind and Water Power Program.
