RPS and ESTAP Webinar: California’s New Energy Storage Mandate
Tuesday, November 19, 2013 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Clean Energy States Alliance hosted a webinar for its members, the State-Federal RPS Collaborative, and the Energy Storage Technology Advancement Partnership (ESTAP) on the recent energy storage ruling in California.
In a move with important national implications, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has approved an order requiring the state’s three largest utilities to add 1325 megawatts of energy storage to the grid by 2020. The mandate is designed in part to make it easier to incorporate large amounts of intermittent resources, like solar and wind, into the electricity system. In this webinar, CPUC staff members described the agency’s energy storage decision, explained its purpose, and discussed how it will be implemented. An audience Q&A followed.
Formal proceeding documents are found using the Rulemaking number R. 10-12-007
Other documents, including workshop presentations, staff reports, cost-effectiveness analysis, and other background papers are on the CPUC website.
