NWRC Webinar: Training a Domestic Skilled Workforce to Support the Development of a US Offshore Wind Industry
Thursday, December 11, 2014 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
A skilled, trained workforce that understands the risks and demands of offshore wind work is critical to developing an offshore wind industry in the US. Health and safety standards exist in Europe, but are still under development in the US. What standards and skills are needed to prepare US workers to meet the needs of this emerging industry? What skills are developers looking for to minimize both risk and cost?
Join the Northeast Wind Resource Center (NWRC) for a conversation with Self Reliance, which is working on developing a training model for US workers, and with Siemens, which not only supports this effort, but also operates an offshore wind training center in Europe. What training programs and certifications are available for the US workforce and how much time is needed to prepare the workforce ahead of project construction, operation, and maintenance?
Panelists:
- Earl Walker, Head of Training and Development, Siemens Energy Inc.
- Megan Amsler, Executive Director, Self-Reliance Corporation/ North Atlantic Offshore Training and Development Center
