METAP Webinar: Resource Assessments of Wave Energy and Tidal Streams in the U.S.
Thursday, March 29, 2012 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
In this webinar, the authors of two reports—”Mapping and Assessment of the United States Ocean Wave Energy Resource” and “Assessment of Energy Production Potential from Tidal Streams in the United States“— present on the results of their research to calculate the maximum kinetic energy available from waves and tides off U.S. coasts that could be used for future energy production.
The reports show that waves and tidal currents off the nation’s coasts could contribute significantly to the United States’ total annual electricity production, further diversify the nation’s energy portfolio, and provide clean, renewable energy to coastal cities and communities.
Guest Speakers:
• Paul T. Jacobson, Ph.D., Electric Power Research Institute, and George Hagerman, Virginia Tech authors, of “Mapping and Assessment of the United States Ocean Wave Energy Resource”
• Kevin A. Haas Ph.D., Georgia Institute of Technology author of “Assessment of Energy Production Potential from Tidal Streams in the United States”
This webinar was hosted by Mark Sinclair, CESA Executive Director. This webinar is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy.
