Across the country, utilities are trying to figure out how to support the deployment of distributed energy to benefit their grids. A recent article in Utility Dive highlights innovative efforts by utilities in Minnesota and Washington to integrate distributed energy resources. In Minnesota, Xcel Energy recently asked regulators to allow cost recovery for a solar+storage pilot project. In Washington, a $3.2M Clean Energy Fund grant is helping Avista Utilities implement the deployment of distributed energy resources. These utility-owned distributed energy projects are important early efforts towards understanding how to structure value streams incorporating distributed energy resources in the electric grids of the future.
