On September 10, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 100, which raises the state’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) target from 50 to 60 percent renewable energy by 2030, and commits to 100% zero-carbon electricity by 2045.

The state intends to prove that 100% clean energy is indeed possible. “California is committed to doing whatever is necessary to meet the existential threat of climate change,” Governor Brown wrote in his signing statement.
