Benefits of Scaling Local Solar and Storage
Monday, November 22, 2021 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM ET
In this Clean Energy States Alliance webinar, Local Solar for All’s Karl Rabago discussed how advanced utility planning modeling shows that scaling local distributed energy resources (DERs) can lead to a least-cost clean grid. Although it is often assumed that utility-scale renewable energy resources are the most cost-effective lever for decarbonizing the electricity system, coupling those remote resources with greater amounts of DERs, such as community and rooftop solar and battery storage, actually maximizes cost savings and better distributes the benefits of clean energy. Using Vibrant Clean Energy’s sophisticated WIS:dom®-P utility planning model, Local Solar for All recently released a study that examines how DERs can support decarbonizing the grid by 2035. Join us to learn how DERs can help states meet their clean energy targets, and why the narrative that only utility-scale renewables are cost-effective is incomplete.
