The Costs and Benefits of Offshore Wind Transmission Options
Friday, October 23, 2020 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET
Developing offshore transmission and grid interconnections is vital for achieving the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states’ offshore wind goals. Two recent studies by The Brattle Group find that by using a planned, shared transmission network, there will be significant benefits to the region including reduced environmental impacts, reduced costs, and reductions in risks that could hinder offshore wind development. In this webinar, hosted by the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA), panelists discussed the two studies–one on New York and the other on New England–and the benefits of coordinated transmission. The Brattle Group also explained important differences between the two regions and the common findings from both studies.
The Brattle studies were prepared for Anbaric Development Partners, a Boston-based transmission and storage developer proposing open-access offshore transmission. Anbaric provided a commercial perspective on pathways to develop independent transmission for offshore wind.
Panelists:
- Peter Shattuck, Sr. Vice President of Communications, Anbaric
- Johannes Pfeifenberger, Principal, The Brattle Group
- Walter Graf, Senior Associate, The Brattle Group
- Val Stori, Project Director, CESA (Moderator)
